How much is a Zoom Room and why should I consider it?

Many organizations are reapproaching their meeting spaces to best accommodate a hybrid office. Our very own Vicom office in Virginia Beach recently had a massive remodel during the pandemic. One aspect that I feel has made a difference in our ability to effectively meet the demands of conducting meetings with people both in-office and working remote is our addition of Zoom Rooms.

In its most simple description, I can tell you that walking into our conference space and starting a planned Zoom meeting was the easiest and most intuitive process using a Zoom Room. It’s hard to explain when things just work but that’s exactly how it felt – it just worked. If a more intuitive user experience isn’t enough though, here are a few more reasons you should consider a Zoom Room.

Breakout Room Support

Zoom Rooms now can start, set up, and control Breakout Rooms. Utilizing the Zoom Room Controller (touchscreen), the host of the meeting can easily assign participants to Breakout Rooms and edit Breakout Rooms. Most commonly used in schools and classrooms where students need to break out into smaller groups for projects and such, Breakout Rooms can also be utilized effectively in the corporate workspace. Breakout Rooms are also available for any employee who has a Zoom Room at home or is working in a remote workspace, allowing for better collaboration and work flexibility.

Focus Mode

The Focus Mode feature for Zoom Rooms limits participants to just themselves, the host(s), and the content that’s being shared.  Consider virtual training, classes, certifications, continuing education, etc. and you get the idea of why this is a useful feature whether meeting with attendees in the office or working remotely.

Immersive View

To create a user experience that resembles the connected nature of in-person meetings, Zoom introduced Immersive View which is now available for use with Zoom Rooms. Immersive View places all your video participants onto a custom virtual background. Hosts in Zoom Rooms can customize the arrangement of the meeting participants, bringing an element of fun and engagement into your meeting.

How much does a Zoom Room cost?

The components necessary for a Zoom Room are relatively basic. You’ll need a Zoom Room appliance, such as the Poly Studio X70 which will provide your Zoom Room touchscreen controller, Camera, Microphone, and speakers. This connects with a commercial display. For a larger conference room, you’ll be looking at a 75” – 85” display. Those components combined with the proper integration and support will be in the ballpark of a $15,000 – $20,000 investment. This is for a larger conference space so a small or medium-size space would be a reduced cost.
