Recent earnings reports have shown that Zoom’s user base has seen massive growth during the pandemic. In December of last year, they reported 10 million daily users. Fast forward to the spring of 2020, and the daily users have exceeded 300 million. What caused the spike? The workplace, as a whole, has seen incredible change. Though Covid-19 was the deciding factor sending most employees to a home-office, many organizations are heavily considering adjusting segments of their workforce to work remotely from home permanently. We’ll likely see this shift happen even more soon, accompanied by various technology innovations to accommodate accordingly. Zoom leads that charge as today they’ve introduced a new category of products called “Zoom for Home.”
Similar to the variety of Zoom room solutions seen in the modern office, the Zoom for Home product line pairs Zoom technology with third-party hardware. The main idea here seems to be affordable hardware that works seamlessly with the Zoom platform, designed to be an ideal solution for work-from-home employees.
This means easy setup and installation with minimal steps. Additionally, the devices will be highly personalized, which will be a shift from the traditional conference room or huddle space interfaces designed to be used by multiple members within an organization. These devices will take their place in a home office in the same way that a personalized tablet or smartphone would operate, except this will keep the user connected and ready for Zoom video or phone calls, syncing their calendar and contacts for efficient ease of use. Though the Zoom for Home product line will accommodate free licenses, the experience may still be limited compared to the experience using Zoom licenses. Hence, it’s important to ensure you and your organization have the right licensing in place. This process is simple and can be done by contacting a representative from Vicom.
The debut device in this line will retail at under $600 and include a 27” display, three built-in cameras, an 8-microphone array, and will operate using a touchscreen interface. Zoom says to expect these units to ship in August.
