How to ensure your virtual events are a success this holiday season! (Free bonus Virtual Backgrounds!)

Your organization might be hosting an in-person holiday event this season but considering the hybrid model that’s become standard for many, virtual events will take the place of the traditional holiday party again this year. Though most would argue that in-person events are still supreme when it comes to the holiday spirit, that doesn’t mean that you can’t nail a virtual holiday event this year!

Here are 5 tips (and a holiday bonus!) to help ensure your holiday virtual event is a holly-jolly success!

  1. Invite your participants to wear their favorite festive attire!

When you close your eyes and picture a holiday party, someone in your imagination is likely wearing an amazing holiday sweater. We’ve come to recognize festive attire as a standard for holiday parties and there is no reason it doesn’t work in a virtual environment as well! Consider having a contest for the best festive attire at the party and offer a gift card or fun incentive!

  1. Food and Drink

What is a party without some good food? Maybe you can’t physically serve your guests but it’s very likely that through this pandemic, they’ve become familiar with how to utilize food delivery services. Consider using Uber for Business, Grubhub, or Doordash to make food a valued part of your party!

  1. Holiday Ice Breaker

Want to get your team in the spirit right from the start? Consider opening your event with a holiday ice breaker. “What’s your favorite holiday movie and why?” “What’s the funniest gift you’ve ever been given?” “If you could get rid of one holiday song forever, which one would it be?” These are just a few examples of ice breakers that you can use to get everyone feeling festive right off the bat!

  1. Games

Depending on the platform you’re utilizing for your virtual event, they may allow game apps to be installed. For example, Zoom offers Festive Quizzes but there are much more available. If your platform doesn’t support games directly within it, consider hosting a game like Trivia or Bingo that is web-based, allowing the host to use screen share so everyone can see and participate. Focus on fun for this portion of your event, your participants will appreciate it!

  1. Recognition

Consider making it a point to recognize your employee’s hard work and thank them for a great year. Letting them know that you value and respect their role on your team will do nothing but add benefit and positive morale to your virtual event!

Bonus: Request that your participants all use a holiday virtual background.

This is another simple but fun way to encourage holiday spirit and create an immersive environment that feels connected and unified. There are a variety of solutions for finding fun holiday-themed backgrounds but to get you started, here are four free holiday virtual backgrounds available for download below. (Just right-click each background to save to your computer for use in your video conferencing platform.)
