How is your workforce optimizing chat?

The vast majority of society has come to terms with the fact that oftentimes it’s far more convenient to send a text message as opposed to making a phone call. Many likely prefer a text over a phone call. The workplace hasn’t fully adopted this mindset yet but as more offices find themselves utilizing a unified communication solution, it’s time to discuss why chat may be a better and more efficient way to communicate at certain times than a traditional meeting, email, or phone call.

Chat is fast and efficient because it gets straight to the point. Replies are typically in real-time as chat messages carry an urgency in the same way a text message would. Before scheduling a meeting, a better use of your team’s time may be to send a chat message first with the key information and then schedule a meeting only if further clarification is necessary.

Additionally, many modern chat solutions offer the ability to organize your chats through specific channels, bookmarks, and other ways to quickly find the information you need.  This can oftentimes be a much faster process than digging through a tremendous number of emails, voicemails, or meeting notes.

Lastly, sometimes meetings are necessary but that doesn’t mean chat still shouldn’t be utilized. Consider using chat to send an agenda before your next meetings or utilize chat to ask your meeting participants for specific preparation or ideas you’d like them to have in mind. Like any tool, chat is only as good as the way your organization is utilizing it and for internal communication, chat may be a way to increase your efficiency and put some time back into your schedule.
