Their Site Manager platform allows administrators to monitor devices across multiple schools, trigger alerts via physical buttons or mobile apps, and even visualize building floorplans to see which classrooms have confirmed lockdowns.
“If you can see a map of your campus, you can see your people,” Tom from Valcom noted. “You know who’s safe and where help is needed.”
The ability to send automated weather alerts, integrate with national emergency feeds, and proactively detect offline devices turns what used to be “hardware” into an intelligent safety network.
The Power of the Teacher’s Voice
From there, the conversation shifted from emergency response to classroom clarity. Lightspeed’s team introduced their instructional audio systems, built to ensure every student, whether in the front row or the back, can hear every word.
“Teachers spend their entire day talking,” said Dan Haas of Lightspeed. “It’s the only profession where you’re expected to project your voice for eight hours straight.”
By using lightweight wireless microphones and classroom speakers, teachers can maintain normal speaking volume while students stay engaged. The benefits stretch beyond comfort, improved comprehension, better behavior, and more equitable learning access, especially for English language learners or students with mild hearing loss.
Safety Meets Instruction

Lightspeed’s new ClearMic microphones not only amplify the teacher’s voice but also double as personal safety tools. With a programmable emergency button, a teacher can discreetly trigger an alert directly from the device around their neck, no need to reach for a phone or wall panel.
When pressed, the microphone communicates with Valcom’s Site Manager, automatically identifying the classroom location, initiating the appropriate lockdown or help request, and notifying key personnel in real time. In seconds, a teacher can protect their classroom while maintaining calm and control.

Beyond the tech specs, both companies emphasized that creating a safe learning environment isn’t just about hardware, it’s about connected people and processes. The technology is a bridge between teachers, administrators, and first responders.
As one participant observed, “If your communication system can’t talk to your safety system, and your safety system can’t talk to your teachers, you don’t really have a safety plan, you have silos.”
