Seriously. You have login data from your Learning Management System (LMS). You have enrollment and demographic data from your Student Information System (SIS). You have attendance data from classroom check-ins, engagement data from polling software, and library data from book checkouts.
You are drowning in spreadsheets, dashboards, and reports from a dozen different EdTech platforms you’ve invested in over the years.

Once you connect your systems, you can move beyond just reactive alerts and start asking strategic questions.
- Which courses are having the biggest impact? By connecting engagement analytics from your classroom AV systems (like Q&A participation) with final grades, you can start to see which teaching styles and technologies are actually moving the needle on learning, not just which ones are popular with professors.
- Are our multi-million dollar facilities being used effectively? You can connect your room scheduling software with your departmental course catalog. You might discover your most advanced, expensive science lab is being used for an introductory English lecture, while the engineering department is desperate for more lab time. This data allows you to optimize the use of your most valuable physical assets.
- Which students need help before they ask for it? This is the holy grail. By creating profiles based on patterns of successful students, the system can identify at-risk students who deviate from that pattern, allowing your support staff to intervene with precision.
This Isn’t About Buying Another Platform
If a vendor tries to sell you a massive, monolithic “student success platform” that requires you to rip and replace everything you already own, show them the door.
The smart approach is to build an integration layer. It’s about choosing systems, especially your UC and AV infrastructure, that are built on open standards and have robust APIs. An API is simply a pre-built way for software to talk to other software.
You start by identifying the one question you want to answer—like “Who missed class this week?”—and connect the two systems that hold the answer. You start small, prove the value, and build from there.
The goal isn’t to get more data. You already have plenty. The goal is to get clarity.
A centralized data hub, done right, gives you that clarity. It turns a flood of useless data into the single most powerful tool you have to fulfill your core mission: helping every student succeed.
